Exotic destinations have fascinated me since I was a child. I even dreamed of having my own private island, lost somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, away from the hectic lifestyle, away from chaos, pollution, rushed people and last but not least, from the hours that passed fast like the wind. Despite the fact that I didn’t get the island of my dreams, I am still a dreamer who pays a special interest in looking for staggering getaways, that flood the senses and make you literally scream : “I want to break free. Now!”I bumped into the island of Saint-Barthelemy, “deserted” in the heart of the Caribbean, while looking for a comfortable shelter, ideal for relaxing the body, mind and soul. A piece of paradise “dressed in emerald notes, adorned smooth lagoon blue shades and with a beautiful beach with silky sand, that awaits you to sink your senses into the deepest relaxation. Le Sereno is composed of 37 exquisite villas and suites, restaurants, bars and even a spa. The project has been defined by the French designer, Christian Liaigre, as a breathtaking resort destination. Saint-Barthelemy is a magical contradiction, combining luxury with simplicity, which makes it the ideal spot for days of leisure, daze and pleasure. The beaches, the view, the warm people and the impeccable services make Le Sereno a wonderful vacation destination…
In our search for the most beautiful resorts, we came across the Labriz Silhouette Seychelles – a 5 star collection of pavilions surrounded by the Indian Ocean. Captured in between white sand beaches and offering magnificent views of the mist-hidden, forest-covered Mount Dauban, the luxury resort welcomes guests in an awe-inspiring setting. Complementing the surroundings, the exotic accommodations blur the lines between inside and outside. The island is only a 45-minute boat ride from the capital, but the feeling it gives is of a tropical paradise far from any care. Pavilions feature private plunge pools, outdoor showers and exceptional natural-colored interiors. Spa treatment suites were placed on massive boulders emerging from the forest, creating a unique bond between guest and island. Traditional Seychelles cuisine can be enjoyed in the restaurants or on the beach and a wide array of activities like sea expeditions, big-game fishing or island excursions will quench your thirst for adventure…

An African safari getaway usually implies raw adventure and time spent in nature, outside the privileges of modern living. Nevertheless, Bilila Lodge in Serengeti National Park offers exclusive accommodation to those in search for hedonistic holidays: “The world’s best-known wildlife sanctuary and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park measures close to 14,763 square kilometers (5,700 square miles). And Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, Tanzania, is nestled in the heart of it all”.
The interior design scheme is inspired by the features of the unique location: “Secluded and spacious, our 77 guest rooms, suites and villas keep you in constant touch with the Serengeti. Contemporary African decor features four-poster beds with mosquito netting, as well as local textiles and artwork – all enhanced by modern comforts such as air conditioning and high-speed Internet access”. How would you comment on the overall appearance of this resort in Tanzania?
Casa Mecano was designed by Arquitectos Costa Rica and is located in Península de Osa, Costa Rica. The residence was especially developed to take in the surrounding landscape: “Casa Mecano functions as an organism that adapts to its environment. The project maximizes the use of passive design strategies through bio-climatic architecture in order to achieve the thermal comfort levels, adequate for the tropical environment.” The rooftop was projected as a sail and a manual system was designed, allowing the client to change its inclination, with the goal of controlling the direct sunlight projected inside the house. The interior design of this sustainable residence is highly modern, with a generous living and dining space acting as the core of the project. All the rooms have excellent views towards the infinity pool and the scenic vistas beyond…
If you believe that green does not work in a trendy and minimal contemporary bedroom, then think again! A green accent wall is easy to shape and it brings that much needed warmth to an otherwise cool and mundane interior. Just repeat the color in the room using vivacious bedding, accessories, nightstands or even a couple of lovely vases and you have an inviting bedroom that is both energetic and relaxing. Those who feel that an accent wall in green or décor are not your thing can still add the color by placing a couple of potted plants to fill up those empty corners. It is an easy, eco-friendly and healthy choice to turn to that will instantly alter the mood in the bedroom.
Bet you never expected this! Another example featured on Giddy Upcycled shows an armoire transformed into a big, beautiful birdcage for live birds. Of course, the glass is replaced again with more appropriate cage-like netting. Neat idea if you want to show off your feathery friends in style.
Welcoming and displaying a modern, cozy design, the Harutzim House benefits from a long, narrow and sloped 940 square meter lot. Having to work with a challenging site and the client’s desire for a spacious residence with a strong connection to the outdoors, Sharon Neuman Architectsstruggled to find the best solutions. A huge patio connected to most of the rooms adorns the outside space, while the interiors display a strong sense of organization both in design and in the number of beautifully designed storage spaces. Organized around a central courtyard, the single family residence in Harutzim, Israel, “ is based on the longitudinal axis as private area and an open square space 120 sq.m as public area. A dramatic long corridor is lighted by a “light-fall” – a sky light window devised to also let hot air out.
We dealt with the subject of an organization and order using a huge piece of furniture designed as multi – functional storage, located in the central open space, accessed from four sided. One of its sides hides the steps leading down to the basement and has a niche displaying a collection of sculptures. Concrete is one of the most common materials here, and is used in a unique way – thin fiber cement surfaces form the kitchen countertops and wrap the island, coat the window sills, the surfaces in bathrooms and garden benches.” The built structure does not exceed 300 square meters, but the indoor/outdoor connection and its carefully designed floor plan makes it look and feel a lot bigger without loosing its intimate atmosphere. Photos by Amit Gosher capture intriguing details and design lines. Enjoy!
The one-acre parcel for the Hinge House was located within a planned subdivision with a requisite builder and had already been cleared for a McMansion-style house. Instead of following in the footsteps of all the other houses on the block, the client engaged LLB Architects to design a modern vision that they could grow into with their young family. The single-family residence was programmed around a central hinge point that separates wings for private and public functions, each with an outward crank from the main axis. The single story of the public wing affords the opportunity for a sloped interior ceiling and clerestory windows, expressive of the form and structure.
Materiality further distinguishes the two wings at the entry, clad in wood on the private wing and limestone on the public wing. The use of commercial materials such as storefront glazing systems, aluminum-clad windows, and Alpolic metal panels were utilized for their durability and low maintenance. The result of these decisions led to a house that is unlike any other in the neighborhood, that meets the family’s exact needs, and is cleverly nicknamed after its design moves – the Hinge House. You’re pretty lucky if you have a large enough window in your bathroom that could use a seating area right beneath it. A bathroom reno featured on Beneath My Heart uses an upholstered loveseat bench with added accent pillows for the window area. How about a built-in? This vanity featured on Home Bunch has a bench area near the window, while this other example (also from Home Bunch) creates a window seat out of a bathroom storage unit. You could also try a bathroom storage unit on a much larger scale with a bench as well, like the third option below from BHG. Built-ins are great, but they’re not for everyone. You could try a simple wicker bench with an elegant cushion to place by your bathroom window, like the one below featured on House of Turquoise.
Green in the girls’ bedroom coupled with pink works surprisingly well and it elegantly complements other colors such as brown and orange as well. Working with more than 3 or 4 bright colors in a room requires great care, perfect planning and a hint of ingenuity that lets each hue standout even while blending with the overall look. While it does sound like a risky proposition, get it right and you will have a playful kids’ room that is a visual treat.
Round bathtubs are often used to accentuate clean, crisp powder rooms. And when it’s a room with a view, a simple form is the preferred tub of choice, especially when the focus is on the scene on the other side of the glass windows. Bathrooms with round tubs often feature round sinks. Here’s one more modern powder room with a view. Round tubs are often used to mirror other round forms in the powder room, such as the skylight in the all-white bathroom below. Curved built-in wall shelving provides another focal point in this space, especially since it’s filled with coral and other natural wonders.
Painting the walls might be the easiest way to add green to the bedroom along with bedding and accessories in matching hue, but think beyond the obvious if you want a truly captivating room. Painting the ceiling in green can be a fun alternative and by leaving the walls white, you will still have a neutral and versatile backdrop that will beautifully showcase wall art and sculptural décor additions. And for those who really want a personalized solution, mixing different shades to come with your own custom green hue is indeed an exciting and enjoyable alternative. This will assure that you are proud owner of a one-of-a-kind bedroom with a shade of green that you came up with.
