Emerald is a color that has consistently topped trend charts in recent times and its jewel-toned glamor is perfect for bedrooms with Hollywood Regency style. Malachite pattern and color is also a smart choice if you love that luxurious look in the bedroom while eclectic bedrooms drenched in green goodness steal the show with sheer audacity and flair.

If you believe that green does not work in a trendy and minimal contemporary bedroom, then think again! A green accent wall is easy to shape and it brings that much needed warmth to an otherwise cool and mundane interior. Just repeat the color in the room using vivacious bedding, accessories, nightstands or even a couple of lovely vases and you have an inviting bedroom that is both energetic and relaxing. Those who feel that an accent wall in green or décor are not your thing can still add the color by placing a couple of potted plants to fill up those empty corners. It is an easy, eco-friendly and healthy choice to turn to that will instantly alter the mood in the bedroom.

If you were to design your perfect spot for relaxation, how would it look like? Mexico-based BNKR Arquitectura completed the development of a private meditation chapel, intended to help the clients in their spiritual journey. Fascinated by one of the studio’s previous projects -La Estaancia Chapel-located near their weekend house, the owners decided to create their own haven of tranquility, something more discreet, but spectacular nonetheless.
The Ecumenical Chapel was therefore imagined as “a chapel buried, a lump in the ground. And in this process we included a vital element in our lives- Water“, the architects stated. “After the tour, the chapel welcomes you with a beautiful U-glass entrance, then you get to the central space. An oculus in the metal plate allows us to see the exterior through water. A metal source with a large quartz in the center reflects the oculus on the floor.” Having a total surface of 170 square meters, the unconventional meditation dwelling is both grand and subtle. What are your thoughts on this project? [Photography: Jaime Navarro]

An African safari getaway usually implies raw adventure and time spent in nature, outside the privileges of modern living. Nevertheless, Bilila Lodge in Serengeti National Park offers exclusive accommodation to those in search for hedonistic holidays: “The world’s best-known wildlife sanctuary and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park measures close to 14,763 square kilometers (5,700 square miles). And Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, Tanzania, is nestled in the heart of it all”.
The interior design scheme is inspired by the features of the unique location: “Secluded and spacious, our 77 guest rooms, suites and villas keep you in constant touch with the Serengeti. Contemporary African decor features four-poster beds with mosquito netting, as well as local textiles and artwork – all enhanced by modern comforts such as air conditioning and high-speed Internet access”. How would you comment on the overall appearance of this resort in Tanzania?

As we alluded to earlier, green and white is a smart combination that works well in a modern bedroom and balances energetic overtones with a serene backdrop. The amount of green you use here depends on the size of the room and the amount of natural light that floods into your bedroom. Smaller bedrooms with too much green might seem both overwhelming and visually cluttered.

Solar energy is gaining some well-earned attention lately, especially in the world of design. These sun parasols seen at Milan Design Week 2012 were randomly placed in the city, in order to provide shade and recharge the devices of resting visitors. Entitled Eclipse and Kosmos, the two parasols designs presented by Ombrellone Solare and developed with the help of recycled materials, harness the power from the sun with the help of a thin, lightweight film made of Organic Photovoltaics. The energy is further stored in an adaptable charger, which can be used for various purposes, such as charging laptops or phones.
Here is more information from the developers: “Eclipse, created in collaboration with Umbrosa, is a simple yet beautiful design for a parasol, doing away with the classic huge umbrellas. It consists of a big, sophisticated ring, which holds a shade sail that is tightened inside and is majestically silhouetted against the sky. Kosmos, equally beautiful, was developed with Extremis, and focuses more functionality and careful consideration for each and every aspect of the product. It also integrates an LED light which is powered by the solar panels, thus can be converted into a lighting fixture at night“.  We find the idea of random photovoltaic parasols placed around the city highly original. Too bad implementing it on a long term is not really an option in most locations…

LINK Arkitektur have completed the design and development of the Froeyland Orstad Church, a modern house of prayer in the small village of Orstad, Norway. The 2100 square meter building has an impressive capacity of 600 seats and accommodates the country’s first baptismal pool. With an appearance inspired by the surrounding landscape, the roof slopes in two directions, further blending in with the rest of the white geometrical shapes, resulting in a diverse composition.
A path with concrete tiles depicting biblical quotes leads the way to the main entrance. The interior is divided in two: “The foyer has a flexible interior configuration which also serves as a communal-area for services, coffee shops, gatherings and more. At the ground level, there is inventory for children and youth activities. An indirect lighting ambiance creates a poetic atmosphere, where at night, the external illumination accentuates the shape of the church“. “Surprisning” is just one of the words that come to mind when looking at these photos. How would you personally describe the project?

Picking the color for your interior design project can be overwhelming. Anyone who has taken a trip to their local home improvement store can attest that there are seemingly endless options when it comes to color. We wouldn’t blame you for wishing there was a way to make choosing colors a little simpler.
In fact, we may be able to offer the perfect solution: Design your room around a monochromatic color palette. Doing so, is an incredibly simple way to bring a touch of elegance to your interiors.
If you’re still not convinced, take a glance at the article below. We’ll outline why using a single color palette is an excellent choice for any interior and tell you how to recreate the look on your own. You’ll be eager to embrace monochrome in no time.

Especially among those of us who are just starting to explore the world of interior design, the prospect of putting an entire room together can be daunting. After all, there are so many different components to take into account: furniture, floor coverings, wall hangings, etc. How can you be sure that they will all fit together?
By choosing a monochromatic color palate, you have your unifying element right in front of you. Monochromatic simply means is that you take one basic color and apply color theory to create a whole palette of options by playing with the various tones, shades, and tints that can be created from the original.
As you pick out the design elements that fit your room, be careful to ensure that the undertones, or the yellow, green, pink or blue hues that stand out in a color when it’s hit by when hit by the light, match. Two design elements with separate undertones will not look right when placed side-by-side, but a matching pair will flow together well,

By now, we’re all familiar with the colors that we use to fill our spaces impact us psychologically. While bright colors like orange can provide is with a much needed burst of energy and earth tones make us feel more grounded, sticking to one color palette helps create a soothing and restful environment.
Research by The University of Texas found that websites with a monochromatic background palette were easiest for others to read. They attribute these findings to the fact that the brain has less to process and therefore is able to better concentrate on the website’s content. You can take this same principle and use a single color palette to showcase your space’s best features.
Since monochromatic designs have such a relaxing effect, it’s often utilized in spaces that need an extra calming boost. Bedrooms are, of course, an excellent option, as are those too-often-stressful home offices. But you shouldn’t be afraid to branch out a little. Experiment with monochrome in your bathroom to create a spa-like feel or use it in your children’s playroom to help keep all that energy at bay.

Usually when we discuss pattern and texture, it tends to take more of a sidekick role. We talk about the lovely way in which patterned throw pillows can make the couch in your living room pop or a textured dining table will add tons of personality to your kitchen. However, when dealing with monochromatic schemes, those bits of pattern can be the star.
Since the shades in your interior will tend to blend together, texture and pattern are the easiest – and often one of the cheapest – ways to add visual interest. In fact, while too many patterns are usually looked upon with trepidation, this occasion in which you can let your mixing-and-matching skills run wild.
While it may sound unorthodox, we recommend that you pick your pattern first. Find a design element that inspires you – a painting, boldly patterned seating chair, or even something as small as a blanket for the back of your sofa. Once you have the item in hand, pick one color out of it and use that as the basis for the entire space. That way, you’re sure that it will fit seamlessly within your design.

Let’s be honest, the words “monochromatic design” scare people a little. That’s because it’s easy to picture a clownish house where the sofas blend into the walls and every element of the room is the exact same shade. Today, we’re going to let you in on one of interior design’s biggest secrets: Monochromatic offers plenty more than just a single shade.
In fact, it’s best to think of the unifying color palette as the base of the room rather than the whole picture. Instead, you should focus on complimenting your main color with a variety of neutrals. Pops of white and black give the eye a place to rest from the intensity of the shade, so consider using those shades as a main component of your design.
If you’re not a fan of neutrals, natural materials can work in much the same fashion. Use wooden furniture to break up your bedroom or a set of ultra-modern metal chairs to making your dining space really stand out.
Whichever group you choose, just be sure to provide plenty of coordinating pops throughout the room. Not only will they provide that always-essential visual interest, but they will pull the room together to give it a professionally-designed feel.

Single color spaces are often the subject of heated debates. Some think they’re too simplistic to be worthwhile. But, when done correctly, we can attest that they are the epitome of easy elegance. If you’re considering bringing a monochromatic color palate into your home, take a look at the article above. We’ll not only tell you why you chose a great option, but how you can integrate it into your own spaces without any trouble. You’ll love their elegant simplicity.
How do you feel about monochromatic colors? Have you used them in your home? If so, what are your best tips? Share them with us in the comments…

This central Gothenburg apartment sprinkled with industrial elements features two rooms and an open layout encouraging socializing. Described as a perfect spot for feeling the pulse of the city while enjoying harmonious Swedish living, this crib- located in a beautiful turn of the century building- comes with lovely rooftop views. Discovered on Alvhem, the 67 square-meter apartment offers a generously-sized living room, modern kitchen, dining area with seating for ten guests, an inviting bedroom and a cozy working space.

Classic oak parquet flooring enhances the bright feel and provides a neutral base for decorating. The association’s approximately 150 square meter terrace is easily reached via the second floor; it is here that the inhabitants can enjoy many hours of sunshine thanks to the optimal southwest location. Sit in a sunbed and enjoy the stunning views of the harbor entrance and the inner city’s rooftops.

When square footage is limited, the last thing you need is an obstacle course of furniture to weave through. Stick to the basics of what you need to enjoy your space. This doesn’t mean you need to live in an empty apartment; it means you should select pieces that serve double duty. Some ideas for multifunctional furniture include. An ottoman (even better: a storage ottoman). It can convert your sofa into a chaise sectional or work as a coffee table (with a tray on top for stability) or extra seating. A sofa table. This can serve as a makeshift dining table, a desk or an entryway table. Go the extra mile and choose a narrow 30-inch-high bookcase or a sofa table with shelving. Stacking, self-storing furniture. Nesting side tables have a variety of uses. A bench. It can serve as dining room seating, a coffee table or a low media cabinet.
